Wound Clinic Fees

As of 16th January 2023, bulk billing will no longer be offered to any wound clinic service. This affects all patients groups including pensioners. (DVA Gold will continue to be bulk billed).

Fees: Out of pocket expense of approximately $40.00 per visit.

Fees will vary depending on your needs. If your nurse feels that you need to see a doctor for complex wound care including services such as prescribing antibiotics for infection, taking wound swabs, complex dressing protocols then a fee of $85.90 will apply and Medicare will instantly rebate you $41.20 leaving you out of pocket $44.70. Extra costs may be incurred depending on the type of dressing required.

Why are fees being charged?

The federal government has failed to increase the Medicare rebates for wound care for over 10 years. Providing bulk billed wound care is no longer financially sustainable.

You can write to your federal minister Justine Elliot, to ask why Medicare rebates have not kept pace with inflation over the last ten years, meaning that bulk billing no longer covers the true financial cost of providing quality care. Email Justine Elliot on Justine.Elliot.MP@aph.gov.au
