Laura grew up and gained her Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences and Bachelor of Medicine in the UK before emigrating to the Gold Coast in 2013. She spent 4 years working in the emergency department before completing her GP training in Northern NSW.
Laura has always had a passion for preventative medicine and since having a baby herself, she has become passionate about supporting families through their pregnancy and breastfeeding journeys as the ultimate in preventative care.
Laura has undertaken further training in breastfeeding and infant care and is training to be an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She is neuroprotective development care (NDC) aligned in her approach to breastfeeding and infant care.
Laura is currently providing breastfeeding/lactation support as well as parenting support for sleep and settling difficulties. Laura also provides antenatal breastfeeding education.
When she’s not seeing patients, Laura works as an Assistant Professor teaching medical students at Bond University. She is also a Director on the Board of Gold Coast General Practice. Outside of work Laura enjoys spending time with her young daughter and husband as well as dancing and camping.
Services provided:
Antenatal breastfeeding education/assessment and planning (usually around 30 weeks but flexible)
Including antenatal hand expression from 36/37 weeks
Breastfeeding support:
Breastfeeding education including breastfeeding mechanisms and norms
Sore/painful nipples/wounds, vasospasm, nipple blebs, blocked ducts
Difficult/painful latch, breast refusal
Assessment of tongue tie concerns (I do not release tongue ties myself)
Poor weight gain
Actual or perceived low milk supply
Hyperlactation (infant symptoms: high weight gain, green/frothy poo, unsettled infant)
Mastitis/recurrent mastitis/plugged ducts/white spots on nipple
Mixed feeding/triple feeding, paced bottle feeding and getting off the triple feeding train
Milk expression using hand/electric pumps or hand expression
Exclusive pumping, bottle feeding, mixed feeding, formula feeding
Back to work/pumping planning and milk storage advice
Extended breastfeeding (1-2 years and beyond)
EARLY PARENTING CARE (For all of these appointments mum must bring baby in)
Antenatal ‘what to expect’ and postnatal normal newborn behaviour education
Sleep and settling/parenting support
Unsettled babies
Sleep including safe bed-sharing
Education on normal development
Weaning education
