Fit for Life


Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been living with Type 2 Diabetes for some time, our Fit For Life education program will give you the skills and knowledge to feel better and live well. Over the eight-week course Dietitian Victoria Sterne and Exercise Physiologist Jamie Close will guide you through a range of topics form understanding what diabetes is, eating right, simple exercises and more.

 Studies* show patients who attend group diabetes education programs are better equipped to self-manage their diabetes. Through better self-management patients improve their blood sugar control, need less diabetes medications, have lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and achieve better weight loss.

What does the program involve?

The Fit For Life program is broken up into eight hour long sessions. The weekly group meet-ups are an enjoyable way to get up-to-date information in a social and interactive environment.

Weekly Topics

• What is diabetes? How to avoid complications for a long and healthy life
• Important health checks, self monitoring and an update on medications
• Healthy weight and how to lose weight safely and effectively
• What is health eating and how to get the balance right
• Making sense of fats and sugars and how to shop with confidence
• Importance of exercise and how to exercise safely
• Simple and effective exercises to do at home

Included extras

• Introductory pack.
• Up to date education resources to accompany each session.
• Shopping and label reading guide.
• Recipes each week.
• Food samples to try.
• Home exercise program.

The details

•Fully bulk-billed course for patients diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes (patients do not need to be existing patients of our practice).
•Spaces limited to 12 people per course.
•Prior to starting the course each participant is required to attend a 45 minute individual assessment.
•All sessions conducted at Tweed Health for Everyone Superclinic.
